Announcing the first annual WordUp Fair, a free day long fair celebrating the joy of lifelong learning and the power of literacy to transform lives and communities. WordUp will be held on October 7th, 11am to 5pm at the Marin Center Exhibit Hall in San Rafael, CA. This event is produced by Literacyworks, an educational nonprofit organization, headquartered in Petaluma. Literacyworks is a pioneer in providing communities access to lifelong learning opportunities for adults, families and children for the purpose of increasing literacy skills.
Learning continues for a lifetime and no two learners are completely alike. Whether you prefer to read the instructions or tinker with the parts until you figure it out, our constantly changing world makes active learners of all of us. In that spirit WordUp is an ongoing project dedicated to celebrating, supporting, and encouraging lifelong learning. And while the vast sea of human knowledge can be an overwhelming place to explore without a map, WordUp brings authors, artists, musicians, and all manner of subject experts together in one place, for a festival of finding out.
We believe in lifelong learning. As individuals and families increase their literacy skills they are able to secure better jobs, manage their personal lives, advocate for themselves, enhance their parenting skills, and contribute more to their community. In short, they are better able to improve their quality of life.
WordUp provides an opportunity for community resources to showcase what they have to offer. Whether your quest for knowledge would have you tapping out a tango, hammering out a bird box, buying a nest of your own, or simply filing you own taxes; WordUp has the word on how to do it and the resource behind it.
The WordUp Fair will bring in an estimated 2,500 participants and will be the second of many annual WordUp Fairs. Our goal is twofold: one, to increase awareness of learning opportunities in the North Bay which will lead to an increase in literacy levels and knowledge base of our population; two, to raise funds that support literacy programs in North Bay county libraries, schools and community organizations.
We are asking you to consider becoming a sponsor of this important community event, and have developed several sponsorship opportunities for you to consider.
Literacyworks would like to partner with you to ensure that these community programs and outreach events are as successful as possible. By becoming a Literacyworks partner you will help fund the programs listed above and also help “keep the lights on” in local literacy non-profits throughout the North Bay. By helping individuals and families throughout the Bay Area increase their literacy skills, our programs give them the opportunity to live more independent and informed lives. By giving people the tools to advocate for themselves, whether through civic engagement, becoming a homeowner, opening up a checking account or going to the doctor, we are creating a more prosperous community for all.
As a partner you will also support our outreach efforts to engage and educate the community regarding learning opportunities that are available in the Bay Area. Through these ongoing events we bring people together to focus on learning while raising money for literacy programs.
Please look at the partnership opportunities below to see where you can join Literacyworks to help expand lifelong learning in the Bay Area.
